CloudtenPedia - On April 23, 2026, a new chapter in Japan’s entertainment industry began. At Nihonbashi Mitsui Hall in Tokyo, legendary music producer Yasushi Akimoto, 67, officially unveiled his latest project: a male idol group named Cloud Ten. Originally known as the Theater Boys Group, the project is a collaboration between Y&N Brothers, Akimoto’s subsidiary company, Mitsui Fudosan, and Tokyo Dome. The name Cloud Ten was chosen with a clear philosophy. If “cloud nine” describes the highest form of happiness, Cloud Ten is meant to go beyond that happiness and beyond existing limits.

A Concept Built on Witnessing Growth

At the press conference, Akimoto stressed that “witnessing” is the heart of the project. He wants fans to see the members grow from the beginning, from nothing into stars.

“I want to create an experience in which, ten or twenty years from now, people will say, ‘We saw with our own eyes the beginning of the group whose tickets are now almost impossible to get,’” Akimoto said.

That philosophy echoes the way he built AKB48, where fan involvement and support helped determine the group’s direction. Akimoto said he does not claim any special talent for spotting stars. He trusts fate and opportunity to bring out the members’ best potential.

Thirty Uncut Gems From Across Japan

One of the most striking features of Cloud Ten is the diversity of its 30 members. Akimoto described them as gems, or genshi, that still need to be polished. They are not merely performers but people with varied backgrounds. Some come from prestigious universities such as the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Keio University. One 13-year-old member is a national dance contest champion. Others include a professional chef and an athlete who competed in Japan’s National Sports Festival, Kokutai. The members come from all over the country, from Hokkaido to Kagoshima.

Akimoto said this mix is meant to create an interesting chemical reaction. The group will likely be divided into several teams, similar to the team system in AKB48, so that each member’s potential can be developed. As for the center position, he left it to fan support, just as fans once “discovered” Atsuko Maeda of AKB48 and Nanase Nishino of Nogizaka46.

An Exclusive Theater in Odaiba

Following the success of AKB48’s theater in Akihabara, Cloud Ten will have its own exclusive stage. A theater with about 300 seats is scheduled to open in August 2026, with some reports citing August 2, inside DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Odaiba. It will become the members’ home for regular performances and direct interaction with fans.

A Regular Documentary Variety Show on Lemino

Alongside the group announcement, a regular documentary-variety program titled Cloud Ten Begins ~Anata ga Mitsukeru Mushoku no Idol~ (Cloud Ten Begins ~The Colorless Idol You Will Discover~) also launched. The show streams exclusively on Lemino starting April 23, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. JST.

Hosted by comedian Hikorohi, the program will look closely at the members’ daily lives, from the audition process and intense training to the personal relationships among them. The first episode features special guests including Yuki Kashiwagi and professional wrestler Kumamoto of Kumamoto Pro Wrestling. New episodes will be released every two weeks on Saturdays beginning May 9, 2026.

An Immediate Round of Introductory Events

Cloud Ten wasted no time introducing itself to the public. A series of meet-and-greet events begins April 26, 2026, at Mitsui shopping complexes around the Kanto region, including LaLaport and Mitsui Outlet Park Yokohama Bayside. Fans will have an early chance to meet the members in person.

A New Era for Male Theater Idols

Cloud Ten is not just another male idol group. It is a bold statement from Yasushi Akimoto, who wants to recreate and expand the theater-idol model he popularized with AKB48, this time for the male idol market. With financial and infrastructure support from Mitsui Fudosan and Tokyo Dome, and with a carefully planned content strategy, Cloud Ten has the potential to become a significant new force in Japanese entertainment.

The long journey of these 30 gems has only just begun. The next move belongs to the fans: to watch, to support, and ultimately to discover the future stars among them. Whether Cloud Ten will surpass “cloud nine” and create a kind of happiness that has never existed before is a question that time and fan support will answer.
